The 1st Yuet Wah College Interclass Debate Competition was successfully held at the Jubilee Complex Hall. The competition was made possible through the joint efforts of the school's administrators, teachers, and students.
The debate competition aims to cultivate students' ability to think from multiple perspectives, develop their interest in debating, and enhance their public speaking, critical thinking, and improvisation skills. As early as the 1990s, students in the school began forming up debate teams and participating in open competitions in the academic community. Over the years, the school has continued to organise and train groups of debate team members to participate in various debate-related competitions and activities. Therefore, this interclass debate competition is an extension of the school's original tradition and a new attempt in diversified learning.
In this competition, 12 teams from JM2 to SM2, F2 to F5, competed in debates on up to 12 topics. After a fierce competition, the most exciting moment was the final round. On the day of the competition, students demonstrated their eloquence and debating skills in debating two topics: "Should the Macao SAR government suspend the Wealth Partaking Scheme?" and “Should high schools in Macao fully implement the use of e-books?”
To encourage the participating students, the school provided a rich array of prizes for the competition. Two champion and runner-up teams were selected, and six best debaters received commendations. In addition, every participant received a beautiful prize. The final round invited Mr. Xu Zhiwei, chairman of the Chinese Youth Advancement Association, and Ms. Liu Yuying, Mr. Lam Cheng Tak, and Mr. Wong Wan Chong to serve as judges. Their support was crucial in making the competition a success and providing the students with a memorable and rewarding experience.
