The Geography Month of this scholastic year was held in June. The theme is “Different Aspects of Southeast Asian Culture”. Diverse events and activities were held in this month, including poster presentation, game booths, workshops and seminars, which aim at providing students with different learning styles and let teachers combine education with entertainment. In the poster presentation, there was an overview of the natural environment, the diet as well as the living culture in some Southeast Asian countries. Meanwhile, the theme of oceanographic mapping, together with an online quiz game, was incorporated into the Geography Month events and activities so as to arouse students’ motivation in reading more Geographic learning materials.
The game booths were held during the recess on 8th and 9th June. Students can learn the locations and capital cities of Southeast Asian countries through playing games. The workshops of making anti-itch creams for mosquito bites and bamboo fans were held on 5th and 13th June respectively. These workshops let students learn how the local people in Southeast Asian countries make good use of the common plants they can find in their daily lives to make the above daily necessities so that they can adapt to their living environment under hot and humid climate there.
With the help of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, we also invited the Macau architect Mr Si Kun Hong to our school to hold a seminar called “A Changing City”, which aims at introducing the development of architecture industry and urban planning in Macau. Some examples are introduced in the seminar such as the blueprint design of the ideal community of Zona Nova De Aterros Do Porto Exterior, the reconstruction of BNU Building and its relationship with heritage conservation, the conservation of unique streetscape, the bevel design of architecture and the interrelation between daily life and building development.
