The opening mass of the 2024-2025 school year was held on September 13, 2024. It was held in two separate sessions by our supervisor, Fr Yip Tai-ho Martin and Fr Jacob Yu Fu Keung for the senior and junior students respectively. During the solemnity, Fr Yip explained the pastoral theme of this year: “Observe Our Lady’s exemplar and advice : Make yourself humble, strong and energetic.” He explained to our senior students the importance of Our Lady’s three virtues:
Humble: we, humans are created by God and designed to be angels of love. What we do is not just for ourselves, but for those who are in need. All our talents are from God, so we must step forward whenever it is in need. "Humility" reflects the goodness of God.
Strong: we need to think about our relationship between the world and us. Every person or things we encounter is precious and valuable. The Catholic faith teaches us that we are valuable and dignified people.
Energetic: from the English word "Energetic", we must have dreams for the future and youth must have creative ideas.
Fr Yip reminded everyone that prayer is an important element in showing our dignity. We should ask Our Lady to guide us.
Fr Yu started his sermon by asking the junior students to try to think about the happiness at the end of the school year. He reminded everyone to be grateful and cherish their study life this year. We are sent by God to fulfill our responsibilities. Fr Yu encouraged everyone to cherish their time, cherish the care of our parents, cherish the teachings from our teachers, and cherish the company of our classmates. Finally, Fr Yu proposed a number: "99"; our school will be celebrating its 100th anniversary next year. He reminded us that we must prepare our hearts and minds to work wholeheartedly to become high-quality YW boys. Pray that our Lord will guide us this year!
By the end of the Mass, the two priests blessed and sent out our catholic leaders and Sodality leaders. May God bless their service in Salesian Youth associations, schools and the Macao community, and may they become good examples of humility, strength and health this school year.
The mass was ended with the singing of mass hymns.
