To celebrate our school’s upcoming centenary, we held the 6th Campus-wide and Centennial Celebration Painting Competition in May, culminating in an awards ceremony on 26th May. The event was filled with a rich artistic atmosphere and school spirit. This competition attracted numerous alumni and students, who came together to express their deep affection for their alma mater through their art.
The competition featured two categories: alumni and students, with entries including traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy, and various forms of painting. After a professional evaluation by the judging panel, champions, runners-up, third-place winners, and several recipients of the Excellence Award were selected from each category. The awards were presented by Father Chow Pak Fai, the principal, who expressed gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement. The principal praised the significance of this painting competition, noting that it not only showcased the artistic talents of alumni and students but also highlighted their gratitude for the school’s century-long legacy and their hopes for the future. Following the awards ceremony, the principal posed for a group photo with the winners, creating a warm and touching scene. The alumni category champion, Un Iok Ming, presented a work titled ‘The Red Cotton Flowers Bloom Across the World,’ reflecting the century of excellence at Yuet Wah. The student category champion, JM2C student Chan Hou Seng, created a piece with a clear concept; the ‘100’ symbolising the milestone of the centenary celebration, with flowing ribbons and flames representing the enduring passion for education and the spirit of inheritance over the past century. The familiar campus buildings and bamboo forest in the background illustrated the harmonious coexistence of Yuet Wah College with nature. All award-winning artworks are currently on display in the lobby until 6th June. All students, staff, and alumni are welcome to visit and appreciate the fusion of art and campus culture.
