One-Day Pilgrimage to Hong Kong for Catholic Teachers from Yuet Wah College and Instituto Salesiano
On October 7th, the “One-Day Pilgrimage to Hong Kong for Catholic Teachers of Yuet Wah College and Instituto Salesiano” was organised by the school supervisor, Father Yip Tai Ho, and principal, Father Chow Pak Fai. A total of 37 teachers from both schools participated in the event. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, the group first visited the Holy Spirit Seminary, where two seminarians from the Hong Kong Diocese introduced the history and overview of the seminary as them guided the group round buildings. Later, Dr. Lam Suet Bit, the librarian, introduced the collection of books and artifacts in the library, enlightening participants about the lifelong dedication of priests who used the Chinese language to spread religious knowledge. Father Yip then explained the relationship between the Catholic faith and moral education.
After lunch, everyone visited St. Anthony's Church, managed by the Salesian Society, and participated in Mass. During the homily, Father Yip reminded all members of the protective power of the Rosary for both ourselves and the Church. He emphasised the importance of teachers in passing down faith to students. In the past, missionaries and many dedicated priests used the Chinese language to convey religious beliefs. Today, the Catholic Church needs faithful members to take on the mission of evangelization and teach the next generation to become good citizens and enthusiastic believers. Father Yip encouraged everyone to not be afraid and to do our best. After Mass, the secretary of St. Anthony's Church explained its history and evangelization work, leading the group on a tour of the parish center, concluding the pilgrimage.
Through this pilgrimage and training, teachers from both schools have gained a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith and moral education. They recognise the significance of teachers in passing down faith and integrate moral education into their teaching to foster the development of students as good citizens.
