Yuet Wah College successfully held its graduation ceremony of for the school year 2023-2024 at the Jubilee Complex Hall.
Classes graduating this year were classes of the 84th Chinese Section and the 72nd English Section. The graduates received their graduation certificates and various awards presented by guest speakers, including College alumnus Mr. Lai Ming Shan, a member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Mr. Chan Iok Wai, the Department Head of the Education and Youth Development Bureau. The ceremony commenced with a welcome address delivered by the College Supervisor, Fr. Yip Tai Ho. He first welcomed all the distinguished guests and parents in attendance. He wished the fathers in the audience a happy Father's Day! He stated that the Salesians of Don Bosco' century-long history of education in Macau has earned the recognition and support of the community. He hoped that the graduating students would uphold the family spirit and maintain close ties with their alma mater in the future. During the graduation ceremony, the guest of honour, College alumnus Mr. Lai Ming Shan, a member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, delivered an enthusiastic speech. He briefly recounted his own experiences in studying and serving the community. He expressed that, though many years had passed since his graduation, he still vividly remembered the earnest guidance of the principals and teachers, for which he remained deeply grateful. He exhorted the graduating students to integrate their interests and careers, and to embrace the spirit of "diligence is the path on the mountain of books, and perseverance is the boat on the boundless sea of learning" in their lifelong learning journey. He hoped that the graduates would stay informed of current affairs and actively participate in the development of the Greater Bay Area and the "1+4" industrial initiatives, making positive contributions to society. Principal Father Chau Pak Fai presented the school's annual report, stating that over the past year, the school had made considerable progress and achievements in character education, academic standards, and the diversification of extracurricular activities. In terms of spiritual formation, the school had offered over 80 classes in faith formation, Salesians of Don Bosco youth service, and moral education workshops. There had also been an increase in the number of teacher and student members of the church community. Regarding academic affairs, the school had focused on enhancing students' learning effectiveness. Academic competitions and public examination results had shown a steady improvement. In the area of student counselling, the emphasis had been on cultivating a sense of responsibility among students. Student associations, societies, prefects, and volunteer teams had a combined membership of over 300 students. The principal noted that the school's extracurricular activities had expanded further, covering athletics, sports, dance, choral, and drama, providing ample opportunities for students to realise their full potential. He reported that the graduation rate for the senior secondary English and Chinese sections was 100%. Among the graduates, 30 had been admitted to renowned universities in mainland China, 180 to local tertiary institutions, and 57 to prestigious universities worldwide. The school had also achieved over 800 academic, cultural, and sports awards, including the champion title in the Macau Secondary School History Knowledge Competition, a super gold award in the UK Physics Olympiad, and two champion titles in interschool athletics competitions. During the graduation ceremony, student representatives Ho King Hou and Lei Loi delivered speeches in Chinese and English, expressing gratitude to the school's educators and their parents. They pledged to become "yeast" that could positively influence others and contribute to society. As it was Father's Day, they also conveyed heartfelt blessings to all parents. The ceremony included a touching video featuring students' messages of appreciation to their parents and teachers. Accompanied by the students singing "Cheers", the graduation ceremony came to a close. Parents and students took photographs around the campus, and the graduates bid farewell to their alma mater, Yuet Wah College. The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Ms. Chan Hong, President of the The Chinese Educators Association of Macau; Mr. Wong Pio, Chairman of the Macao Catholic Schools Association; Professor Im Sio Kei, President of the Macau Polytech University; Legislative Assembly Members Wu Chou Kit, Ngan Iek Hang, and Ma Io Fong; Mr. Chan Weng Hong, Chairman of the Macau International Airport Company; alumni Mr. Cheong Kuok Wa, Ms. U Bik Fung, Principal of Colégio Dom Bosco (Yuet Wah); Ms. Kwan Wai Bing, President of the Parent-Teacher Association; Mr. Che Wing Keung and Mr. Wong Seng Fat, representatives of the Yuet Wah College Alumni Association; and Mr. Pan Chak Sang, Director of the Yuet Wah College Alumni Association Foundation, as well as Lam Kwok Wun, the Branch Manager of Bank of China and Lam Iok Ha the Market Director of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Macau).   |
