To introduce international chemistry competitions to Macao’s secondary school students, the Macao Society of Science and Artificial Intelligence Education hosted the Canadian Chemistry Olympiad in early September. The competition was open to students who had previously won awards in the 2024 Canadian Chemistry Contest (CCC). The competition topics included polymer chemistry, qualitative analysis of inorganic chemistry, comprehensive application of crystal structures, the configuration of ferrocene from an electronic and orbital perspective, and the physical chemistry of iron ions and thiocyanate ions. The assessment level was equivalent to the 1st and 2nd year university chemistry curriculum. The participants in Macao were mainly from Form 4 to Form 6, and their scores were compared against benchmarks set by the host country and Chinese students to determine two types of awards.
According to the evaluation of the Canadian Chemical Society, three students from Macao received awards, with our school’s students winning two of them. Award winners are as follows: Global Outstanding Award: F6A Kuok Iok Kuan (also won the National Silver Award), F6A Lao Kuan Hou (also won the National Bronze Award).
Congratulations to the two award-winning students!
