To introduce students in Macao to international academic chemistry competitions, the Macao Science and Artificial Intelligence Education Association organised the UK Chemistry Olympiad (UKChO) earlier this year. The competition attracted 83 participants and featured questions covering a wide range of topics, including the chemistry behind clay target shooting, nuclear chemistry of bromine compounds, organic chemistry of epoxides, nanocarbon tubes, Raman spectroscopy, organic synthesis of agarwood components, and the reaction kinetics of iodine with ketones. The assessment ranged from high school chemistry to second-year university-level chemistry. Students in Macao were awarded based on their scores relative to the thresholds set by the host country.
According to the scoring by the Royal Society of Chemistry, our students performed exceptionally well and earned multiple awards:
- Gold Awards: Kwok Iok Kuan (F6A), Liu Kuan Hou (F6A), Fong Kun In (F6C), Wong Man Cheng (F5A), Ao Ieong Iat Hei (F5A), Tam Kuan Hou (F5A)
- Silver Awards: Choi Pak In (F5C), Pun Wai Meng (F5C), Pang Chong Hang (F5C), Wong Ka In (F5C), Wan Chi Fong (F5B), Chang Chon Kit (F5C)
Congratulations to all award-winning students for their outstanding achievements!
