On June 13, the Moral and Spiritual Department invited senior journalist Ms. Mok Lai Meng to deliver a lecture on ‘Media and Information Literacy’ to Form 4 students. With extensive experience in the media industry, Ms. Mok has held various positions, including Manager of the News Department at TDM and consultant in the Office of the Commission of Audit. She offers profound insights into journalism and media studies.
During the lecture, Ms. Mok used an interactive approach to analyse critical issues in the digital age, such as ‘media trials’ and ‘cyberbullying.’ By incorporating real-life examples from Macau and nearby regions, she effectively engaged the students. She emphasised the importance of critical thinking when navigating the overwhelming volume of online information, encouraging students to distinguish the authenticity of sources, avoid being misled, and refrain from spreading false information. Additionally, Ms. Mok shared practical strategies for responsible media use, protecting personal rights, and addressing cyberbullying, providing students with actionable guidance.
As modern life becomes increasingly intertwined with the internet, media literacy is an essential skill. This lecture not only expanded students’ understanding of media operations but also helped them develop a responsible approach to media usage, further strengthening their digital literacy in the information age.
