On 5th November 2025, our SM3 and F6 students participated in a special Beijing Opera session entitled "Appreciating the Quintessence, Savoring Chinese Opera." This event was part of the Student Arts Education Outreach Programme, organised by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ). Through an expert demonstration, the activity deepened our students' understanding and appreciation of this traditional Chinese art form.
During the session, professional artists provided a clear and systematic introduction to the four primary role types in Peking opera—Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chou—explaining their characteristics and artistic essence. Through vivid stage demonstrations, they integrated key operatic conventions such as singing, recitation, acting, and combat, together with the arts of costume and make-up. This approach transformed abstract knowledge into an intuitive and engaging aesthetic experience. By successfully combining lecture and performance, the event bridged the gap between students and traditional art, allowing them to personally experience the profound cultural depth of Chinese opera.
